At SFS School, we believe in inspiring young minds by connecting them with personalities who have transformed society through their vision, determination, and selfless service. On the 14th and 15th of August 2025, we had the rare privilege of hosting Padma Shri Jadav Payeng, famously known as “The Forest Man of India.” His presence in our campus was nothing short of a blessing and a deep source of learning for our students and educators alike.
Who is Jadav Payeng?
Jadav Payeng, a humble man from Majuli in Assam, is a living example of how one individual’s dedication can change the destiny of an entire ecosystem. Over the last four decades, he has single-handedly transformed barren sandbars into lush green forests. Today, the forest he nurtured, covering over 1,300 acres, has become a haven for biodiversity, sheltering tigers, elephants, deer, birds, and countless species of flora and fauna.
For his relentless commitment to the environment, he was awarded the Padma Shri in 2015, and his work has received international acclaim. Yet, his humility, simplicity, and deep love for Mother Nature continue to be his most remarkable traits.
His Visit to SFS School
During his two-day visit to SFS School, from 14th to 15th August 2025, Jadav Payeng interacted with our students, teachers, and staff, leaving behind a trail of wisdom and inspiration. His sessions were not merely talks, they were life lessons. He emphasized how every child has the power to protect the environment, starting with small acts like planting trees, conserving water, and respecting nature.
The students were deeply inspired by his words: “If one person can plant a forest, imagine what an entire generation of young hearts can do.” His message beautifully aligned with the SFS philosophy of nurturing responsible citizens who care for the earth and humanity.
Impact on Our Community
His presence reminded us that education is not just about textbooks but also about cultivating values, compassion, and responsibility. Our students participated in special activities, tree plantation drives, and discussions centered on sustainability and ecological balance, inspired by the “Forest Man.”
On this memorable occasion, our school community celebrated not just Independence Day, but also a deeper independence, the freedom to envision and create a greener, healthier future for generations to come.
A Lasting Memory
Jadav Payeng’s visit to SFS was more than an event; it was an awakening. For two days, our school became a hub of environmental awareness and motivation. His simplicity struck a chord with everyone, and his life’s journey taught us that even the smallest steps, when taken with consistency and love, can bring about revolutionary change.
At SFS, we are proud to have welcomed a true guardian of the earth. The memory of his visit on 14th and 15th August 2025 will remain etched in the hearts of our students, inspiring them to grow as torchbearers of environmental stewardship.
