They consider traditional teaching to be more convenient and effective than the new methods of teaching. However, one cannot deny of the possibilities that open when technology is brought into the classroom are endless. With the advancement in technology, access to education has been significantly broadened including a wide range of learning styles.

As teachers and academicians, one always needs to really utilize the tools of advanced technological education. They should be asking themselves why students want technology in their classroom instead of just needing it. Advanced technology in education helps teaching professionals in the new ways of innovative lesson planning and also in the monitoring of individual development. It also helps student learn through technology and create new sets of skills that can help them in their careers in the long run.

But before we get deeper into the topic, we must first understand what Education Technology is.

What is Educational Technology?

According to definitions from professionals, a systematic approach to the processes and resources of teaching, educational technology, or as we also call it- EdTech, utilizes technology to improve the performance of students. Education technology identifies the needs of individuals, adapting technology to classroom instruction and in the tracking of growth and development of student in their individual level. Additionally, Education Technology is a new field in the education sector. Many of the teachers who have been following the traditional methods of teaching might find it difficult to implement the advanced technologies in the classroom in their lesson plan. To determine the effectiveness of the measures and to track the results of relevant technology that is applied to certain curriculum, teachers are required to accurately reveal the needs of the students.

Why Do Students Need Technology in the Classroom?

1. Technology simplifies access to educational resources

Students nowadays anyway rely on advanced technology in their everyday life to learn things better. So, why not having access to the same in their classrooms? Students today use their smartphones and tablets to know more about things outside their school hours. Technology therefore, should be trusted with the responsibility during school as well. People also believe that technological education actually helps students stay engaged during class by using a familiar tool for academic learning.

2. Technology improves the learning experience

By incorporating modern technology like artificial intelligence, academicians and teaching professionals can develop more creative and innovative lesson plans to hold the attention of the students in their classes. It also needs to be mentioned that when new methods of teaching develop, so does the need for specialized professionals both within and outside of the education field.

3. Students can learn at their own pace through Technological Education

Many believe that technology can enhance individual learning, removing educational boundaries that teachers may face in their teaching careers. It enables online education, distance learning, and access to up-to-date information which has been proved in the recent time during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, as each student interprets information differently, technology can enable more research into subjects that are more difficult to learn.

4. Technology helps students prepare for their future careers

We all are quite known of the fact that technology is widely used by professionals across a wider range of fields and industries. Its inclusion into the classroom may help students feel more ease and familiarity when approaching the start of their career in building a better future. It can also enhance class interaction by encouraging collaboration of differing learning styles between the students and the teacher.

5. Students feel comfortable using technology

Many children today feel comfortable using technology from a very early age of their lives. They have already mastered the use of new technological tools and when we introduce new ideas or subjects by using tools that are familiar and fun to them, the students will feel confident in their ability to learn the new material and may even feel empowered to help their classmates learn better. Technology can make learning a much fun process.

Benefits of Technology in Students' Life

  1. Get Detailed Knowledge

Imagine a classroom that does not use any technology at all and the teachers are unable to say anything more than what they themselves know. This means that the students would never get to know more than what their teachers know especially if they limit themselves to what they are learning from the classrooms and this will result in limiting the knowledge of the students as well. Things have now changed and much of the credit needs to be given to technology in this matter. Fortunate enough that students these days have access to the internet. In case they do not like what their teachers are teaching or if they are just curious to know about things or even to clear out their doubts, they can always look up the internet.

  1. Access Knowledge at Anytime and Any Place

The biggest benefit of technology for students is that they are able to access knowledge at any time and place of their choice. Technology in recent time has progressed to such a level that no longer is learning confined only to the four walls of the classroom of an educational institution. These days when the students in schools and colleges have to wait for classes so that they could clear their doubts are long gone. The students and teachers too can now use technology in order to clear those doubts. They are able to do it at any place that they choose to and at any time that they are comfortable with. Don't you think this is amazing?

Notably, technology has also brought forth the concept of distance education in the recent times which mean that students can take part in classes in a virtual manner as well even if they are not physically present together.

  1. Immensely Productive

Technology has made learning for students a lot more productive than what it used to be before. As it has already been mentioned above, as a result of using technology, education now no longer is bound by geographical boundaries or any particular time zone as students now have the tools to keep learning on their own. Many thanks to the advent of technology that has made the life of students so productive and knowledgeable.

  1. Greater Motivation

Due to the advanced technology in education, it has been made possible for the students today that they can get a better hold onto their subject matter by watching videos related to the subject and read documents on the topic for better knowledge and understanding. According to sources, a number of schools and colleges are known to show motivational videos to their students on a regular basis so that they are always active and learn with a positive mindset. This also helps the students to remain optimistic regarding any and every work that they are doing. Plus, it is also expected that it would help them in their academic careers as well as their professional ones.

  1. Technology Helps Students to participate in an Active Manner

Technology has now made it possible for students to take part more actively in their educational process and in classroom communication with their fellow mates and teachers. The students nowadays no longer have to follow what is written in the book alone as they are a lot more interested in finding answers to various questions by themselves with the help of advanced technology. The students feel the urge and tendency to learn and explore more because of technological development and growth in education sector. This leads to active participation and that, in turn, has made the students a lot more interested in their studies than before.
