How to inculcate leadership skills?

Dear lovely young people!

In today's fast-paced world, it's extremely crucial to hone various skills such as leadership skills, communication skills, etc. to move ahead in your career later and in your life.

Today I want to focus on leadership skills and how you can acquire these. Leadership skills refer to the abilities that aid in guiding and encouraging a group of people towards achieving a common goal or a set of goals. These skills include communication skills, negotiation skills, decision-making skills, etc.

Here are some tips to help you inculcate leadership skills:

1. Learn, learn, learn!

You see your parents, Principal, and teachers around you, doing a lot for you every day. They teach you so many new things from their everyday tasks. So, try to learn leadership skills from them. Observe how parents manage helpers at home, how your Principal manages the entire staff in school and how your teachers manage the class. You'll surely benefit. Inspiration is the most important thing while inculcating leadership qualities.

2. Creativity is a must!

Good leadership demands creativity. So let your creative mind fly as high as it wants to. You should take part in extracurricular activities and explore everything because to lead, it’s important to know how good you are at a particular thing.

3. Patience is important!

Listening to others with empathy is a must if you want to be a good leader. A leader needs to be an attentive listener and a keen observer and these two skills require a lot of patience. Patience is an important skill for you to remain calm, no matter what situation you're in and to make correct decisions for yourself and others.

4. Decision-making counts!

It's very important to take decisions if you want to be a leader. You should have the confidence to take decisions on your own, be it while choosing between two outfits or placing an order while at a restaurant. Every decision, though small, counts. Every decision you take will build a sense of understanding, clarity, and confidence in you.

5. Learn to negotiate.

Negotiation is an important skill you should learn if you want to be a leader. A good leader knows the art of negotiation. Learn to negotiate politely. You can start with bargaining in the market. Negotiation skills help your brain to develop in such a way that you know how to make the best out of a deal or an opportunity by looking at it from different angles.

6. Get involved in teamwork.

A leader leads a team. So, it's always a good idea to take part in group activities and express your opinion. Learn how to work in groups and manage things and people. It makes sense to become familiar to a team environment before stepping out in the real world.

7. Confidence-building is crucial.

It is very important to be confident if you want to be a good leader. Take part in activities like debate and extempore where you can gain confidence to speak. It’s important to be confident while making decisions as a leader because no one listens to a person who already seems to be confused.

8. Follow inspirational people.

No doubt your parents, Principal, and teachers are amazing mentors but you should also try to find a role model for yourself in your field of interest who will help you learn and keep you motivated to achieve your goals. For example, if you want to be a techie, you should follow tips from the top techies in the world like Sundar Pichai. These people often share tips and tricks to excel in their particular field.

9. Avoid procrastination!

Procrastination is a common practice but please be aware of its dangers and how you need to make sure that it never turns out to be a habit. Because when procrastination becomes a habit, it might hinder you from achieving your goals.

10. Learn to accept failures!

Being a leader does not mean that you have to be successful every time. It’s important to learn that failing is a part and parcel of life and you'll go ahead only if you can accept failures and move ahead. You have to learn from your failures rather than losing hope if you want to be a great leader.

So, I'm hoping all of you learn how to be responsible leaders in future as our country is in dire need of good leaders.
