How is a Library Important in student development?

The learning process or the journey of learning in the life of a human begins right after he is born and is something they keep continuing till the last day of their life. The sources of knowledge can be various. Especially with digitalization, the sources of gaining knowledge have widened to make new devices apart from books. But nothing beats the feeling of grabbing your favorite book and engulfing yourself with the knowledge that they provide. And where do you find them in your school? Correct, it’s the Library! Books are the ornament of a library and for students to grow into functional logical adults, reading is really important. This very habit of reading is inculcated within a student right from their school days when they learn to use the library. A library is a place where they have access to learnable resources. The libraries provide a quiet space for studying and working on projects with hundreds, if not thousands of research materials and books not only for the students but also for the staff. Here are a few reasons why you should visit your school library more often-
The libraries form an important part of the school curriculum. The school libraries are a quiet and safe place for the students where they can enhance their knowledge in the resource-rich environment. The library periods are not just for recreation but they help in moulding the child into a globally competent person because the student can get access to the knowledge of the world wide by reading the books available in the library. Mere reading of the school textbooks won’t help, but reading and researching in the library about various topics taught in the academic curriculum would complement the performance of the student in excelling more as it would comprehend the topics taught in class with a better understanding.
Libraries are very helpful as they suffice for a place where a student can have access to loads of information on their desired subjects or topics yet not burn a hole in his/her pocket because libraries provide a provision of borrowing books. It is especially helpful for the students who cannot afford costly books as well as do not have the luxury of the internet at their home, to read and research upon any topic of their choice, whenever required.

Libraries develop reading habits among the students and this is probably one of the most important features. The more a student reads, the more his/her outlook on life changes. A school library plays a key role in promoting literacy and the pleasure of reading among the students. Once the joy of reading is developed at an early age, the child grows up to be a well-read adult.
Libraries play a key role in the literacy development of students. With the habit of being an avid reader in the library, the student’s grasp of the grammar and language becomes strong, and with years of reading, it gets refined, ultimately enhancing the vocabulary of the student.

All the books and the learning materials in the library create interest among the readers and thus, instead of wasting their leisure time, they can start devoting the same to libraries which not only would help to form reading habits in students but also help them manage their leisure time fruitfully as well.
Sitting in front of electronic devices sometimes gives you a lonely and boring feeling. But visiting a library is an all-different feeling as it has a human touch to it because irrespective of anything and everything the library welcomes all its readers and there, they get a chance to connect with each other which would probably help in the formation of literary clubs where they can increase their cognitive abilities.
Libraries have also turned out to be quite effective for the teachers to widen their existing area of knowledge. With knowledge rapidly advancing and the old concepts being changed with time, the libraries help in keeping the teachers upgraded, which would help in serving as an effective tool for the smooth functioning of the teaching-learning process, ultimately helping in the development of the students.
The library plays a key role in helping a student discover oneself because the set-up of the library is such that the reader gets to choose the desired choice of books or reading materials. He/she can choose from any department they like, ultimately assisting the students to discover their stream of interest.
