Before focusing on “Why CUET is important?'' it is essential to know “What is CUET?”. With all the hype and news around by far, we know that the acronym CUET stands for Central Universities Entrance Test. The National Testing Agency, NTA is the body that conducts CUET for all the students of UG (Under Graduate) and PG (Post Graduate) courses. The CUET 2022 is all set to be tentatively in the 2nd week of June. It has been a few weeks since we were introduced to the CUET or Central Universities Entrance Test. However, there are still queries and or confusions revolving around it. And, as the NTA has started the registration process for CUET 2022, it is important to get a clear picture. What is it? How will it affect you? Who can register for CUET? What is the paper pattern? How can one register for CUET 2022 and so on?
- WHY CUET?
Every student desires to get admission into their dream college or desired University after completing 12th standards or their UG Courses. However, earlier all the focus on getting admission was on the skyrocketing cut-offs that tend to increase each year, and surprisingly enough in the last few years, it turned to 100% in many universities. That makes it a problem for the students with good merit (e.g someone with 90%-98%) to get the preferred admission.
Now, with the introduction of CUET, every student gets a fair chance to perform their best in the entrance exam and get admission to their desired college or university.
- ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES FOR CUET.
As per the National Testing Agency and UGC for now they have notified that they will be conducting the CUET for the UG courses in the month of June. However, they will be later on conducting the CUET for PG (Post Graduate) and Ph.D. levels as well. The following table will help us get some idea about the eligibility criteria-
- SYLLABUS FOR CUET
The syllabus is an important factor for any student to crack any examination and come out with flying colours. Like all other exams, CUET too has got a certain syllabus to be followed in order to pass the entrance exam. Now that we have had a basic idea and cleared some doubts about the CUET, let us get to know about what is the syllabus needed for CUET.
On March 29, the chairman of the University Grant Commission, UGC, M Jagadesh Kumar, said that the syllabus of the upcoming Common University Entrance Test, CUET 2022, will be completely based on the syllabus of Class 12.
A simple break-up of the syllabus is given below-
There will be 3 sections namely Section A which will be a language proficiency test where the students need to select and compulsorily appear for 1 language among the 13 offered languages. Section B will consist of domain-specific subjects and the students need to pick 6 subjects out of 27 offered subjects. This section will basically test the candidate’s aptitude. The third section namely Section C will consist of general awareness.
Also, the basic criteria for applying for CUET for the UG level is a minimum of 50% marks in class 12th (General Category) and a relaxation of 5% which is 45% for ST/SC students.
And for the PG level, a minimum of 55% (General Category) and 50% (ST/SC/OBC/Others) is required in the UG courses.
Most probably CUET UG 2022 is going to be held in June or July 2022 tentatively and the CUET PG Exams date to be announced shortly, therefore the aspirants must buckle up and start their preparation for the exam to have a good hold on the syllabus.
- CUET EXAM PATTERN
We are now familiar with the syllabus of the exam. Now let us move toward the pattern of the exam. By pattern what we mean is how the overall system of the question is. Those are-
- The question paper of CUET PG 2022 consists of 100 Multiple Choice Questions.
- Candidates will get 2 hours (120 minutes) to solve the CUET 2022 question paper.
- The candidates will be awarded 4 marks for each right answer and 1 will be deducted for the wrong answer.
- No marks will be awarded or deducted for unanswered/blank questions.
The pattern for CUET UG is-
Section 1: Languages (40 Questions to be attempted out of 50 Questions)
Section 2: Domain-Specific (40 Questions to be attempted out of 50 Questions)
Section 3: General Test (60 Questions to be attempted out of 75 Questions)
As per the official CUET notification, for every correct attempt, 5 marks will be awarded. For every incorrect attempt, 1 mark will be deducted. There will be no penalty for unattempted questions.

aspects. It has the potential to streamline admission processes by avoiding the overstressing of multiple entrance tests and thus reducing the financial burden.
Also most importantly, the burden and the stress on the back of the students of cutting through the cut-offs have been prevented by the introduction of CUET.
