St. Francis de Sales School, Guwahati, witnessed a vibrant and heartwarming morning on 17th April 2026 as it hosted the “Welcoming of Class XI Students (Science, Commerce & Humanities - Session 2026–27) & Post Bohag Bihu Celebration.”
The programme commenced around 8:00 AM at the Assembly Ground of the SFS Block, where the school formally welcomed new batch of students of Class XI (Science, Commerce & Humanities) stepping into the new academic session 2026–27. The event beautifully blended the spirit of new academic beginnings with the cultural richness of Assam’s most cherished festival, Bohag Bihu.
The programme was gracefully anchored by Priyam Kashyap and Murchana Kashyap, who conducted the event with confidence and enthusiasm. The gathering began with a warm and heartfelt welcome extended to the newly inducted Class XI students of Science, Commerce, and Humanities streams, as they embarked on an important new phase of their academic journey.
The solemn prayer song set a reflective tone for the occasion. This was followed by an inspiring message from Rishika Borkataky of Class XII Humanities B, who encouraged her juniors to embrace opportunities with confidence and determination.
The highlight of the formal segment was the address by the Principal, Rev. Fr. Melvin Parambukattil, whose motivating words guided students towards discipline, purpose, and excellence as they begin this significant academic phase and also he wished everyone a heartiest Bihu greetings and reminded everyone of the essence of Bihu.
A special welcome was also extended to the newly appointed Vice-Principal, Rev. Fr. Sibin V.A., expressing the school’s eagerness to benefit from his guidance and leadership. The felicitation of the new Vice-Principal (Mermier Block), Rev. Fr. Sibin V.A., conducted by the Principal along with Sr. Baby Rose, Vice-Principal (SFS Block) symbolizing a warm welcome into the SFS family. Fr. Sibin then addressed the gathering, sharing encouraging and thoughtful insights for the students.
Adding a delightful and emotional touch to the programme, the school also celebrated the birthday of the Principal, Rev. Fr. Melvin Parambukattil. He was felicitated by Sr. Baby Rose, and the choir presented a melodious Malayali song, making it a memorable surprise for him and a cherished moment for all present.
The cultural segment brought the celebration to life with a vibrant Bihu Dance performance by the students of Classes VIII and IX, capturing the spirit of Bohag Bihu (Rongali Bihu), a festival symbolizing joy, renewal, and unity.
While the welcoming of Class XI students was conducted at the SFS Block, the festive spirit of Bohag Bihu was celebrated across both the SFS and Mermier Blocks. Following the programme at the SFS Block, a similar celebration was held at the Mermier Block, where the junior wing students enthusiastically showcased the same joy and cultural vibrancy through their performances, ensuring that the celebration reached every section of the school in presence of the Principal & Vice-Principal (Mermier Block).
The programme concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to the management, staff, students, and all contributors who made the event a grand success. The celebration ended on a note of pride and unity with the National Anthem.
The event stood as a beautiful reflection of SFS Guwahati’s commitment to nurturing both academic excellence and cultural values, as students of Class XI begin their journey in the new session with enthusiasm, inspiration, and a strong sense of belonging.
