About The Event
The Annual Sports Meet 2024 of SFS School, Guwahati, was held from 19th to 21st December 2024 with grandeur, energy, and a spectacular display of talent and sportsmanship. The three-day celebration was an embodiment of discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and true sporting spirit, bringing the entire SFS family together on a common platform.
Day 1: Inauguration Ceremony (19th December 2024)
SFS Guwahati was abuzz with excitement and energy as the school proudly hosted the Inauguration Ceremony of the Annual Sports Day 2024—a much-anticipated celebration of sportsmanship, strength, and school spirit on 19th December 2024. The event was graced by the presence of Olympic Medalist and India’s pride, Madam Lovlina Borgohain, as the Chief Guest, adding immense prestige and inspiration to the occasion.
The morning began with an enthusiastic welcome by student anchors Devansh Meitei and Lamneihat Singsit, who set the tone for a spirited day. The arrival of Madam Lovlina Borgohain was met with thunderous applause as students, staff, and guests welcomed her with warmth and admiration.
The ceremony opened with a soulful Prayer Dance, invoking blessings for the success of the day. This was followed by an inspiring welcome message by Rev. Fr. Melvin Parambukattil, Vice Principal of SFS Guwahati. Father Melvin and Sr. Josna Varkey, Vice Principals, were also felicitated for their invaluable contribution to the school.
The Flag Hoisting Ceremony, led by the Principal Rev. Fr. George Thomas and the Chief Guest, Madam Lovlina Buragohain marked the formal opening of the Sports Day. The School Anthem, echoing through the campus, instilled pride and unity among all present.
A spectacular March Past followed, showcasing the discipline and dedication of students from all houses. Then came the symbolic Torch Relay, led by the school’s proud athletes:
• Aaron Choudhury (Grade 11 Science) – U16 State Football Team Champion
• Ayesha Nasrin Choudhury (Grade 7C) – National-level Taekwondo Gold Medalist
• Saraswati Devi Kabrabam (Grade 7C) – Winner of Nasik Selection Trial for Hong Kong Taekwondo World Championship
• Ekalavya Verma (Grade 12 Humanities B) – U19 Inter District Basketball Champion
The Oath Taking Ceremony, led by Sports Captain Swayam Rai, reaffirmed the commitment of all athletes to fair play, integrity, and true sportsmanship.
What followed was a breathtaking sequence of cultural and thematic performances, including:
• A Semi-Classical Nritya Sangam Dance
• A Drill Demonstration showcasing precision and unity
• A Blended Yoga Demonstration merging rhythmic grace with balance
• The colorful and artistic Umbrella Drill
• A thrilling Martial Arts Demonstration
• And a heartwarming Generation Alpha Dance Performance by the little ones
The event also celebrated winners of the SFS Marathon 2024, with medals awarded in both student and staff categories. The joy of receiving prizes from Madam Lovlina Borgohain was a moment of pride for all the winners.
In her motivational message, Madam Lovlina shared insights from her journey, encouraging students to stay determined, disciplined, and passionate in all that they pursue. She officially declared the Annual Sports Meet 2024 open, igniting the spirit of competition and camaraderie.
The ceremony concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks by Coordinator Madam Zebin Akhtar, followed by the National Anthem performed by the dynamic SFS Girls’ Band.
With hearts full of pride and spirits soaring high, the school transitioned into the much-awaited athletic events. The inauguration ceremony was not just a celebration of sports—it was a witness to unity, perseverance, and the vibrant culture of SFS Guwahati.
Day 2: Sporting Events (20th December 2024)
The school playground turned into a lively battlefield of passion and sportsmanship as the students participated in a wide range of track and field events. From sprints and relays to shot put, long jump, and team games, the day was packed with enthusiasm and roaring cheers from the audience. The entire day witnessed the tireless efforts of the school’s athletes, cheered on by their peers and teachers, creating an environment of healthy competition and unbreakable spirit.
Day 3: Closing Ceremony and Prize Distribution (21st December 2024)
The Closing Ceremony on 21st December marked a beautiful conclusion to this dynamic celebration of sports. It began with a warm welcome and invocation through a Prayer Song. The Principal, Rev. Fr. George Thomas, addressed the gathering, reflecting on the values of sports and the importance of nurturing both the body and the mind. This was followed by a soulful performance by the School Choir, winning the audience’s hearts. The Prize Distribution Ceremony, conducted by Madam Anuradha Gogoi, honoured the outstanding athletes and teams who excelled in various sports events. Medals and trophies were awarded for individual and team excellence across disciplines and categories. GREEN HOUSE was awarded as the BEST HOUSE. The event concluded with:
• Vote of Thanks acknowledging the contributions of school management, staff, students, and parents
• School Anthem, led by the school community, symbolizing unity
• A heartfelt closing note wishing everyone a joyful and restful evening
The SFS Annual Sports Meet 2024 was not just a celebration of physical achievements but a manifestation of the school's holistic approach to student development. The spirit of sportsmanship, unity, and excellence echoed through every performance and event. The three-day extravaganza successfully brought out the best in our students, reminding us that while winning is sweet, participation, effort, and respect are the true victories.
