The Teachers' Day celebrations at St. Francis De Sales School, Guwahati, on 5th September 2024, commenced with vibrant assemblies in both the SFS Block and Mermier Block. These assemblies, filled with enthusiasm and reverence, saw students organizing various performances, including skits, songs, and heartfelt speeches to express their gratitude toward their teachers. The energy and respect that the students brought to these gatherings set a joyful tone for the day. The program for the students concluded at 10:30 AM, after which the celebrations shifted focus, offering dedicated events for the teachers.
Following the morning assemblies, the teachers gathered in Mermier Hall for a special ceremony titled "A Beacon of Light: Prayer for Teachers." The program began at 11:15 AM with an introduction and a prayer song that brought the community together in a spirit of reflection. At 11:25 AM, the symbolic lighting of the lamp took place, with several distinguished teachers and guests participating, including The Principal Fr. George Poovathunkal, Dr. Sangeeta Bharali Dutta, Sanyukta Baruah, Mamani Deka, Tarali Devi, Manjil Hazarika, and Rezina Hassen. The lighting of the lamp served as a beautiful metaphor for the role teachers play in illuminating the minds of their students.
A multi-faith scripture reading followed, with representatives from various religious traditions sharing wisdom from their sacred texts. Kalpana Rana Tamang read from the Holy Bible, Siru Kanu Gupta shared verses from the Guru Geeta, and Wahida Rahman offered readings from the Holy Quran. This interfaith dimension of the program highlighted the universal value of teaching and learning, cutting across cultural and religious boundaries. At 11:35 AM, a short reflection was shared, underscoring the immense role teachers play in shaping the future of students and society at large. The ceremony continued with intercessions at 11:45 AM, followed by a moving veneration of light and blessing, marking the end of the spiritual proceedings.
At noon, the focus of the celebration shifted to a more celebratory tone with the Teachers' Day Program for the school’s staff. The program began with a prayer song, "We Welcome You," performed by students at 12:15 PM. Following this, Rev. Fr. George Thomas, the Principal of SFS School, delivered a heartfelt welcome address and felicitated the guests and teachers. His words of appreciation and encouragement acknowledged the relentless dedication of the teaching staff.
The celebration continued with a melodious song performed by Pratiksha Deka Ma’am at 12:35 PM, adding a soulful touch to the event. At 12:40 PM, a special video dedicated to the teachers was presented, featuring heartfelt messages from students and memorable moments from the academic year. This was followed by an inspiring message from Rev. Fr. V. M. Thomas, who spoke at 12:45 PM. His speech highlighted the critical role teachers play in shaping the lives of their students and the future of society. His words resonated deeply with all in attendance, reinforcing the value of the teaching vocation.
Further adding to the celebratory atmosphere, Sunny Bharadwaj Ma’am performed another song at 12:50 PM, uplifting the spirits of everyone present. At 12:55 PM, Anuradha Gogoi Ma’am offered a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the day. The program concluded with the School Anthem at 1:00 PM, after which a special lunch was served for the teachers, allowing them to unwind and enjoy the rest of the afternoon in camaraderie.
